Y/PROJECT FALL 2016: A BACKSTAGE STORY

Paris’ underground club Le Gibus hosted this season’s Y/Project show, and it provided the perfect setting for a collection as raw and electrifying as the venue. Glenn Martens is a pro when it comes to redefining shapes and reinterpret the meaning of a piece of cloth. This season, denim trousers were exaggerated at the hem or presented lines of mis-buttoned buttons from top to bottom, tailored jackets were asymmetric and oversize while leather was all around (buttoned-up tops, restructured trousers). Martens always makes the most clever choices in terms of styling: a leather choker in the shape of an actual snake is also worn as a belt. Straps were the common thread of the collection. Holding the deconstructed silhouette together, they gave that bondage reference that felt so right. The whole show was transported by incredible techno soundtracks with hints of classic French music: it felt like a celebration.
