GUCCI BACKSTAGE BEAUTY – SPRING-SUMMER 2016 MILAN
For a few seasons now, Gucci has undeniably been the most anticipated show of Milan Fashion Week. The appointment of Alessandro Michele as creative director of the Italian House, which suffered financial setbacks in the past, has fueled a regained interest for the brand. Today, sales have picked up and Michele is rightfully considered a design genius, inspiring with his craft anyone who is given the honor of experiencing it. For the Spring-Summer 2016 season, Michele affirmed his visually impactful aesthetic and his intention to showcase Italy’s great craftsmanship. There is something bright and innocent about Michele’s creations, even though the designer seems to have a penchant for see-through, pastel-colored dresses and ruffled shirts. With this collection, one word came recurrently: vintage. It was best represented by the high collars, the bright colors and flower patterns, but also by the incredible trompe-l’oeil appliqués. Yes, the new Gucci has something of a vintage treasure that was kept precociously for decades. But it is not old-fashioned vintage that you ask yourself « do I really want to wear this »? It’s a modern reinterpretation of historical and poetic references that makes our senses travel while still embodying fashion’s first rule: to be forward-thinking.
