ILJA HAUTE COUTURE SS16: ASSIMILA
Paris, ILJA Haute Couture SS16. Dutch designer Ilja Visser is one of these talents who are making a name for themselves in the Parisian Haute Couture landscape. « Assimila » is her fourth collection shown on the official Haute Couture schedule as guest member. For « Assimila SS16 », the designer reinvents shapes and takes inspiration for the constant evolution of the skin. « Assimila » refers to the concept of assimilation, to the properties of the skin to interact with its environment, to adapt, to assimilate. This inspiration results in flowy shapes, asymmetrical dresses in soft crepes and organza on which panels of fluid fabrics create a three-dimensional layering effect. The tones go from nude to pale pink to emerald green, a vivid color found on more structured pieces like sculpted jackets along with predominant cream tones. ILJA’s take on Haute Couture is fresh and modern, and definitely injects a younger, lighter spirit to Haute Couture Week.
