Hideaki Yoshihara and Yukiko Ode, the duo behind the cult Japanese brand HYKE, are the forerunners of a unique aesthetic that combines minimalist and functional design, while retaining intricate details. Their uncluttered and functional vision combined with their interest in performance pieces is fully in line with Moncler’s DNA.

For its second Moncler Genius collection, HYKE deepens the themes of the first season, delving into Moncler’s archives to explore pieces such as the 1960 Lionel Terray down jacket and other historic designs, reinterpreting them in high-tech materials and new craft techniques. The result is a collection that infuses HYKE’s sense of pragmatism, offering clean silhouettes while playing with layering of lengths and shapes.

The combination of short and oversized cuts sets the tone: the sobriety of rain jackets and vests, long or short, is mixed with oversized short quilted coats. Bulky jackets are balanced by pleated dresses and tapered pants. The emphasis on functionality is reflected in an increase in pockets and waterproof details, as well as the use of technical materials and finishes: outerwear in GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ and micro ripstop nylon, thermo-warmed quilting, double closures and YKK AQUASEAL® zippers. The functional nature of the pieces is accentuated by a strict palette of black and neutral shades. Strikingly new, nature-inspired abstract prints – a first for HYKE, accustomed to colorblock minimalism – dress the pieces in tones reminiscent of sand, stone and clouds. The rigor of the cuts and lines is the signature of the collection, as well as HYKE’s signature details such as the side slits and the drawstring.

Men’s and women’s locker rooms are skillfully designed and synchronized to create a sense of unity. Sweatshirts and sweatpants, long sleeve t-shirts and pleated dresses complete the collection, accessorized with bush hats and HYKE Desertyx boots that finish the urban safari look. A collection that conveys a message of efficiency and continuity, drawing its evolution from Moncler’s heritage.
