DAVID SALLE « GHOST PAINTINGS » AT SKARSTEDT GALLERY, NEW YORK
By Crash redaction
Curated by Arts Club of Chicago Director Janine Mileaf, the David Salle’s exhibition is on view at Skarstedt Gallery, 20 East 79th Street.
In this exhibition named « The Ghost Paintings », american painter David Salle, prints each image in black and white on three pieces of photosensitized linen, which were then stitched together in horizontal bands to form a large canvas. The Ghost Paintings are made from large photographic images printed on three contiguous linen panels. The “subject” of the photograph is that of a woman creating improvised movements under a large piece of fabric. The exhibition includes a discussion between the artist and Hal Foster, an essay by Janine Mileaf, and documentation of Salle’s early performance work.
