LOEWE COLLABORATES WITH JOHN ALLEN

John Allen’s textile compositions inspires accessories collection

You may have discovered John Allen’s work through his past collaborations with Jonathan Anderson, who used his textile compositions to create prints for past collections of his own brand, J.W. Anderson. What you may not know is that John Allen is probably one of the finest knitting designers of his time. This Spring, he collaborates with the historic House of Loewe and creative director Jonathan Anderson to create an exclusive Summer accessories collection.

John Allen is a well-trained textile expert, who graduated from the Camberwell School and the Royal College of Art in London, where he then worked as a professor until 1989. His style is recognizable for its representation of almost abstract landscapes and sunsets over the sea on knitted carpets. This is what inspired Jonathan Anderson for this collection. The designer selected three of John Allen’s works: « Falling Leaves », « Cornish Harbour » and « Pink House in Cumbria » and imagined the pieces of the collection around them. The motifs of these textile compositions have been reproduced on tote bags, scarves, or big beach towels. Anderson took inspiration from Allen’s color palette as well – from sand to vibrant blues and pinks – to create a line of wallets, bags in calfskin or exotic leathers, or even a new interpretation of the iconic Loewe T-pouch.

This collaboration is part of a bigger initiative from Loewe to highlight the work of various artists and craftsmen. With this initiative, Loewe proves its commitment to cultural heritage and its willingness to showcase past, present and future know-how for a more honest and modern conception of handicraft.
