Becoming Marni is an exclusive exhibition organized as part of Marni Prisma, Marni’s 20th anniversary celebration events. From May 9 to November 22, the San Gregorio Abbey in Venice will welcome the works of Brazilian artist Véio, in the form of a hundred wooden sculptures distributed in the different rooms inside of the abbey as well as outdoors. Véio is a self-taught Brazilian artist based in the small town of Nossa Senhora da Gloria. Véio’s work consists in giving new life to pieces of wood, clogs or branches he randomly finds along the river. Through the art of transformation – mostly painting, clipping, shaving – Véio injects a new meaning to those fragments of nature, transforming them into eternal, « animal » beings. Véio’s artistic approach is very close to Marni’s vision and both share the sense of transformation and the exploration of endless possibilities. A vision of art that is unadulterated, qualitative, raw. A dialogue between people and places  linked by the same aesthetic – leading to the exhibition’s title, Becoming Marni.

A film by Italian artists Tellas and Roberto Ciredz, who followed Véio for a month and experienced his artistic process, will be shown inside the San Gregorio Abbey.
