WORLD PREMIERE OF A SITE SPECIFIC PERFORMANCE BY HOFESH SHECHTER

Hofesh Shechter is a dancer and choreographer unlike any other. Known for his powerful and inspired style, the 40-year-old Israeli has made a name for himself as a boundary-pushing artist for almost ten years now. A few years ago, Shechter launched an apprentice programme for young dancers between 18 and 25 called Shechter Junior. The programme gathers the most promising talents of their generation and provides them with the best training there is. The group is touring Europe with deGeneration, a performance composed of Cult (2004) and Fragments (2003), two of Shechter’s rarely seen works, along with the award-winning Disappearing Act (2015). The show, presented at the Teatro Cavallerizza, is a much-awaited event which will complement a group of four exceptional performances by Shechter Junior in the spaces of Collezione Maramotti. Designed as a dialogue between contemporary dance and the visual arts, A Site Specific Performance is the fruit of the collaboration between Collezione Maramotti, Max Mara, and Fondazione I Teatri. « Making work for stage gives you the freedom to do whatever you want », confesses Shechter in the video trailer, adding: « You see me, I’m quite polite… I hold it together. But a lot is happening inside me. » This visceral need to express himself through dance and movement is what makes Hofesh Shechter such a unique artist. This is also what makes him the perfect fit for a project that combines dance and visual arts. « The space itself feels like an art piece », he says as he walks through the gallery’s spacious room, which white walls are illuminated by natural light. From November 3rd to 5th, this intimate setting is sure to provide a full-on experience to the lucky audience of Shechter Junior’s A Site Specific Performance.
