DIOR FALL WINTER 2016: A BACKSTAGE STORY

Lucie Meier and Serge Ruffieux presented their Dior Fall-Winter 2016 collection in Paris yesterday. In this time of transition for Dior, it was important to show continuation in the designs and the spirit of the French House. A challenge Meier and Ruffieux successfully took on. Their Dior woman feels young with her black lip, her hair tied back, her multiple earrings and round sunglasses. The first looks to appear on the runway were mainly black suits and pencil skirts, setting the tone for timeless elegance. Mini quilted handbags are worn over the shoulder. What seems to be a common thread in the collection are the bare neck and shoulders. Short dresses and coats replicate the same low-cut neckline that leaves the skin to show on one of the most feminine part of a woman’s body. Prints and patterns are also essential: Meier and Ruffieux took inspiration from Dior’s history with flowers and nature to create a damask effect on some pieces, notably a purple coat-dress worn by Jamie Bochert. Of course, the lily of the valley is highlighted as an embellishment or print on other pieces, like a short off-white coat. The show closes on a series of large coats worn in different ways, leaving the impression of a more relaxed yet highly elegant woman.
