DOVER STREET MARKET LONDON CELEBRATES HAYMARKET NEW OPENING

It’s been 12 years since Comme des Garçons’ Rei Kawakubo and Adrian Joffe opened the first Dover Street Market in London. Located on Dover Street (which gave it its name), the original store grew to be a pioneer in the apparel shopping experience. « An ongoing atmosphere of beautiful chaos », as Rei Kawakubo describes it, Dover Street Market has become a reference and is known for its precise and relevant offer, as well as is avant-gardist take on merchandising. Today, there are three Dover Street Markets in the world: in London, Ginza and New York. The London Market has recently been reopened with a new address, on Haymarket, in a building originally created by Thomas Burberry in 1912. According to Rei Kawakubo’s wish, the facade has remained unchanged, as well as its central staircase, which works as a link between the themed floors. Kawakubo designed all Comme des Garçons spaces as well as all common areas, including the Good Design Shop, The Perfume Tower and Pocket Shop. Dover Street Market really works as a blend of identities and inspirations, which made its success over the years. The five-floor store (including the basement) offers a wide range of up-and-coming and established brands such as all Comme des Garçons brands, Dior, Céline, Azzedine Alaïa, Paul Smith, J.W. Anderson, Vetements, Delvaux, Rick Owens, Simone Rocha, Stephen Jones, Craig Green, Undervover, and many more. Each floor has a theme and is highlighted by a special installation and lighting. As an example, walking around the first floor you will notice « Frozen Waterfall » chandeliers designed by Rei Kawakubo, with LED lighting. More than just shopping, Dover Street Market London’s new Haymarket address provides the most inclusive, alternate shopping experience.
