AGL AND KÖNIG GALERIE CELEBRATE GALLERY WEEKEND IN BERLIN

KÖNIG GALERIE’S POWERFUL ARTISTIC OFFERING WITH SUPPORT OF AGL FOR GALLERY WEEKEND

This year’s Gallery Weekend in Berlin will take place from April, 29th to May, 1st in the German capital. For over ten years, Gallery Weekend as been one of the leading events of the contemporary art scene and has gained international influence. Over one weekend, about fifty galleries open up their doors to the public, collectors and art enthusiasts. Among them, well established galleries as well as younger ones. This year’s event promises to be worth the detour. On the occasion of the Gallery Weekend, the König Galerie found in AGL, the Italian luxury footwear House led by the Giusti sisters, the perfect patron. The implication of AGL with König Galerie comes from a passion for contemporary art shared by Sara, Vera and Marianna Giusti, as well as their desire to champion female artists and creatives in their work. Homed in the spaces of the St. Agnes church, a true icon of Brutalist architecture located in Berlin-Kreuzberg, the König Galerie will offer in partnership with AGL a preview of exhibition curated by the gallery, featuring young artists Annette Kelm and Claudia Comte, as well as leading figure of the « Neue Wilde » movement K.H Hödicke. Together, König Galerie and AGL will also present the first Gartenschau (German for « garden show ») of the gallery, gathering works by few of the most influential artists of the contemporary art scene: Camille Henrot, Elmgreen & Dragset, Michael Sailstorfer, Katharina Grosse, Jeppe Hein, Alicja Kwade (who both organized exhibitions in the St. Agnes church in 2013 as part of Gallery Weekend), Tatiana Trouvé, and David Zink Yi. The occasion to explore the 900 square meter gardens of the church designed by German architect Werner Düttmann in the 1960s. The massive concrete building on Alexandrinenstrasse is the perfect location to stage an impactful exhibition or any artistic event. In fact, over the years, St. Agnes church as seen many manifestations take place in its spaces, fashion shows for Yohji Yamamoto or G-Star or various exhibitions being few of them. This May, AGL and König Galerie definitely offer the highlight of this year’s Gallery Weekend.
