CHRISTIAN DIOR HAUTE COUTURE FW16: A BACKSTAGE STORY

Christian Dior Haute Couture FW16. There is something intimate about Lucie Meier and Serge Ruffieux’s latest Haute Couture collection for Dior. Indeed, this season the collection was presented in the House’s private salons on Avenue Montaigne, where Mr Christian Dior presented his first collection in 1947. Nearly seventy years later, this collection very much feels like an homage to his legacy while keeping an eye towards the future. The collection has a sense of purity, maybe because the designers chose to show only black and white silhouettes, sometimes with touches of gold as embroideries, which grew more and more present throughout the show. A striking detail, there were no heels to be found on the runway: the models all wore embellished flat sandals that immediately exuded a feeling of ease. Different textures were provided by various fabric treatments, whether sheer, pleated, ruched, or embellished, while beautiful necklaces responded to the golden details on the clothes. On the beauty side, Peter Philips signed a bold cat eye while the models wore their hair pulled back with an extra-large barrette.
