BRITISH PHOTOGRAPHY CELEBRATED BY BURBERRY SEPTEMBER 2017 COLLECTION

For its September 2017 collection, Burberry is inspired by British photography, particularly the one celebrating “a certain strand of British photography that, explains Christopher Bailey, I have always loved – one that documents the many and varied tribes and clans and classes that make up this island of ours.” The president and chief creative officer of Burberry curated the “Here We Are” exhibition with Lucy Kumara Moore and Alasdair McLellan. Among the two thousands photographs by renowned artists of the 20th century are showcased never before seen prints by Shirley Baker and Ken Russell, one portrait of Belgravia in 1979 by Karen Knorr, images of the Notting Hill’s local community by Charlie Phillips and non-conventional portraits of British businessmen by Brian Griffin. A special exhibition of more than seventy photographs by McLellan will be showcased as well. It includes four series of images taken in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, along with older photos exhibited for the first time ever. Taking place at the three floors at Old Sessions House, the brand new restored venue for Burberry runway show, in Clerkenwell, ‘Here We Are’ is open to the public 18 September – 1 October, after the runway show on September 16th. The brand’s men’s and women’s September collections will be exhibited as well, setting the stage for a much sought-after very British dialogue between fashion and photography reinventing a vision of British lifestyle.
