« MULTIDIMENSIONAL GRAFFITI » AT THE COMME DES GARCONS SHOW

By Crash redaction

When you go see a Comme des Garçons show, you know that minimalism or commercial pieces will not be on the menu. Season after season, Rei Kawakubo, continues to push the boundaries of fashion, never following any rules or trends and offers art rather than simple clothes. This time, her collection twirled around the theme of « Multidimensional Graffiti », an intriguing name for an intriguing collection. The sculptural and voluminous dresses were covered in innocent, almost childish prints ranging from manga drawings to Arcimboldo paintings and small colorful toys were incrusted in the models’s hair.Graffitis take a leap from the wall and become 3D volumes, in the form of clashing patterns of different artists on the same garment. An array of playful and candy-coated references but on avant-garde, exploded volumes… that’s what makes Comme des Garçons so special and unique.
