CHRISTIE’S LONDON MARNI’S SS21 MARNIFESTO COLLECTION

By Anthony Thuong-Seng

From June 9 to 23, Christie’s presents a collection of four unique pieces from Marni‘s spring summer 2021 Marnifesto collection.

The benefit of the collection will go to the Alliance of Artists Communities, an international association of artist residencies which aims to develop artists of any discipline in their creative work. The collection features four « Marnifesto » upcycled leather coats from Marni, the Italian brand leaded by Francesco Risso, its creative director. According to him, “These one-off pieces reverberate the emotions among the Marni community during the Covid-19 pandemic, and they are the result of a collective effort in a time of uncertainty and hope. We gave a new interpretation to the beautiful garments we found in our archives by hand-painting the words and drawings collected throughout the lockdown. Because these pieces transcend time and go beyond fashion, we are extremely proud to present them through Christie’s, hoping they will resonate further and ultimately enter the life of those who are willing to treasure them.”

The collection has been imagined during the covid pandemic, when Francesco Risso opened up abou it with all the people involved in the project. Thus, Marni created this collection, transformed, upcycled previous collections and hand-painted the pieces with spontaneity. For the occasion, the coats have been customized with words from Julien d’Ys, Mykki Blanco, Jonah Hill and Michele Elie.

The online auction opened on June 9 and the pieces are available to view at Christie’s London since June 11 and until June 16.
