This exhibition offers a lyric visit inside the Beat Generation, which existed in New York and San Francisco between 1950 and 1960. It’s a real sensory experience, an immersion through a vast transcultural movement which started during Second World War.
One of the leading figures of the Beat Generation in the 1950s, is american poet, Allen Ginsberg who is the main line of this exhibition.
This exhibition presents screens, performances, movies, photographs, reproductions of visual works and books, as well as unreleased interview of Allen Ginsberg with Jean-Jacques Lebel. There are also some masterpieces of modern litterature signed by Jack Kerouac, Gregory Corso, Gary Snyder and Peter Orlovsky.
In this exhibition, we are able to follow step by step the regular battles in culture’s and politic’s domain, led by Beat Generation which is against militarism, economic materialism and sexual repression.
The exhibition takes place almost simultaneously in four differents spots :
