GALLERIA POGGIALI AT ART PARIS 2023

By Crash redaction

Poggiali Gallery will participate in the Art Paris fair to be held at the Grand Palais Éphémère from March 30th to April 2nd, 2023.
For its first participation in the Art Paris fair, Florence’s Galleria Poggiali presents a selection of works by Goldschmied & Chiari, Basil Kincaid, Claudio Parmiggiani and Erwin Wurm. A selection of very different artists, but united by the poetic quality of their work and their recognition not only in Italy but also worldwide.

Claudio Parmiggiani (Luzzara, 1943), one of the leading figures of the international art scene, is a rare artist. His « solitary » and detached approach that has led him to remain silent for more than forty years is the same one that has brought so much success to his works. Voluntarily away from fashions, groups and movements, Parmiggiani has developed an innovative, personal and at the same time deeply universal language.
Parmiggiani works with a variety of materials including dust and ash, fire and air, shadow and color, light and stone, glass and steel, blood and marble, assembling and reconstructing a personal world, an unusual image but one that seems strangely familiar.

Erwin Wurm (Bruck an der Mur, 1954) lives and works in Vienna, Limberg and New York, and is known for his humorous approach to formalism. The exhibition, organized in the Florence annex of the Poggiali Gallery, was the first to be held in Italy. The artworks exhibited encapsulate twenty-two years of work: exaggerated, deformed and deconstructed objects that perfectly represent today’s society and its extreme consumerism.

Sara Goldschmied (Arzignano, 1975) and Eleonora Chiari (Rome, 1971) founded the duo goldiechiari in 2001, but have been working under the name Goldschmied & Chiari since 2014. The artistic work revolves around different themes that can be made explicit in female identity and sometimes a repressed sexuality to a reflection on the natural landscape and its contamination by the artificial.

Basil Kincaid (St. Louis, Missouri, 1986) is a post-disciplinary artist whose research constructs, contemplates and revises the self-imposed and conditioned limits of contemporary society. Through the techniques of quilting, collage, installation, and performance, Kincaid leaves behind social barriers to engage in more intimate and representational work.

ABOUT GALLERIA POGGIALI

Founded in Florence in 1984 by Alessandro Poggiali, Galerie Poggiali initially specialized in the work of 20th century Italian masters before passing the torch to Lorenzo and Marco Poggiali, sons of the founder and second generation of the family’s gallery owners.
Using their knowledge of the art world, Lorenzo and Marco, with the support of their father Alessandro, have established the gallery’s programming by promoting the encounter between major and emerging artists. The Gallery represents established names such as Enzo Cucchi and Gilberto Zorio, Eliseo Mattiacci, Claudio Parmiggiani, Arnulf Rainer, Domenico Bianchi and Erwin Wurm, as well as international emerging artists such as Kennedy Yanko, Basil Kincaid, Miguel Angel Payano, Benedikt Hipp and Alexander Diop.

In 2009, Galerie Poggiali expanded with the opening of a space in Pietrasanta, an expansion that has contributed to the enrichment of its programming. The space is divided into two, Ex Fonderia and Project room, reinforcing Marco and Lorenzo Poggiali desire to pursue a program that presents both established and emerging artists. In 2018 the gallery opened a third location, at Foro Buonaparte in Milan, to allow international emerging artists to present projects specifically planned for the space.
