CREATING INFINITY: LOUIS VUITTON X YAYOI KUSAMA PARFUMS

By Crash redaction

Today, March 31, Louis Vuitton presents the second drop of three fragrances in collaboration with Japanese artist Yayoi Kusama.

The collection comes in two drops, with distinct thematic directions reflecting Yayoi Kusama’s motifs and motivations, enveloping the packaging, bottles, and Travel Cases of three Louis Vuitton fragrances composed by Master Perfumer Jacques Cavallier Belletrud: Attrape-Rêves, Spell On You, and L’Immensité.

Attrape-Rêves, a bouquet of peonies mingles with raw cocoa powder, while a hint of patchouli heart is enlivened by the fresh, sparkling notes of lychee.

Spell On You; pale iris mixed with sophisticated rose, a sensual scent for the senses and the body.

L’Immensité; a concentrate of freshness; ginger extracted with carbon dioxide with the bitterness of grapefruit.

Kusama has always used her florals to represent her art, a theme she has used throughout her working life in various forms such as paintings, silkscreens, sculptures, and installations.
On Spell On You, is a fragrance enriched with floral and other olfactory motifs; the delicate print is applied to the leather travel case and Ultimate Flacon, an oversized version of the Spell On You bottle created by designer Marc Newson, made of Baccarat glass laid on a natural leather base.
Yayoi and Louis Vuitton designers together chose a character from the artist’s most recent paintings to create an exclusive and fun motif Faces. Smiling faces are printed on the Attrape-Rêves bottle in vibrant shades of color.
Kusama’s love for pumpkins goes back to tender and important memories from her childhood, where as early as elementary school, the artist delighted in drawing pumpkins of various shapes and colors. In a variety of bright colors, the pumpkins are applied on the men’s fragrance L’Immensité with graphic playfulness.

The cheerful print also appears on the Boîte Chapeau Flaconnier, a Monogram canvas box that contains the entire Drop 1 and Drop 2 collection. Inspired by the « sac chauffeur » created in 1910 to protect the car wheel from rain and dust. One of the first Boîte Chapeau models was designed in 1924; it began to play a crucial role beyond elegant luggage, as Louis Vuitton was the only brand to offer this type of travel item.
