Chairs are the stars of this year’s project, entitled LOEWE Chairs and hosted in the courtyard of Palazzo Isimbardi from April 17 to 23 during Milan Design Week.

LOEWE once again stands out for its study and attention to the craftsmanship and beauty of weaving and embellishment. Ingenious artisans from around the world reimagine an everyday, taken-for-granted object into a unique designer piece.
Weaving is explored as a way to create additional textures, to expand forms into soft sculptural protrusions. The project features different weaving techniques in different materials, some, such as leather and raffia, close to LOEWE’s aesthetic and history, others, such as thermal blanket foil, completely unexpected and new. Also used in this collection are shearling and felt, which elegantly cover parts of the chairs, giving them a soft and tactile part. Each creation is the result of a creative dialogue between the artisans, their preferred medium and the object.

Eight Lloyd Loom chairs created by Belgian company Vincent Sheppard complete this investigation into the craft and functional value of the object. Lloyd Loom began in the United States of America in 1917, during World War I, when entrepreneur Marshall Burns Lloyd invented a technique in which paper was twisted around a wire and then machine-woven into large sheets.
In 1992, Vincent Sheppard acquired the patent and established a factory in Cirebon, Indonesia, an area famous for its tradition in rattan weaving and folding techniques. LOEWE Lloyd Loom chairs are made of natural fibers and leather. All chairs are for sale. Bags and leather goods inspired by the materials and techniques that embellish the chairs will be sold exclusively at the event.
