On the occasion of Venice Film Festival’s “Giornate degli Autori”, on September 3rd 2023, Miu Miu is to premier its latest commission from its Women’s Tales series Stane, directed by the Cannes Camera d’Or prize winning Croatian filmmaker Antoneta Alamat Kusijanović, together with its #25 commission “Eye two times mouth” , directed by Mexican independent film director, screenwriter, and producer Lila Aviles.

Commissioned by Miu Miu, Women’s Tales began life in 2011 as a continuous collection of unique short films telling women’s stories through the distinct eye of some of the world’s most heralded female filmmakers. So far the series celebrates twenty-six individual pieces, spanning the hypnotising and emotive spheres of each of their creators. Fizzing with political plights, generational displacement, and lively protagonists, Women’s Tales is an archive of feminist intuition and touching stories that mark the 21st century and juxtaposed the question of vanity against the wider more complex issues facing women today. Exploring the contradictions around appearance, power, pleasure and sensuality, the Women’s Tales directors pose intimate questions and food-for-thought in visually stunning cinematic masterpieces that traverse cultures and geographies. Miu Miu’s Women’s Tales are told through the elegant acting of noted actresses and models embodying the Miu Miu spirit and attitude. 

The Gentlewoman’s Penny Martin will hold a two-day conversation program on the 3rd and 4th September at the festival, bringing together a selection of the directors, advocates and advisors. The aim of the discussion is to highlight the current stakes at play in the field of filmmaking for women in the immediate environment, acknowledging challenges but also brain-storming game-changing opportunities. 

Miu Miu will also reveal the new Miu Miu Women’s Tales Committee, a group of distinguished film-world thought leaders who will steward the influential short-film series into its next era. Consisting of award-winning filmmaker and director of Women’s Tales #5, Ava DuVernay; renowned actress, writer and director Maggie Gyllenhaal; and two-times Academy Award winning costume, production, and set-designer Catherine Martin, alongside co-founding Committee members Miuccia Prada and Verde Visconti, the Committee will shape the intellectual, cultural and industry direction of Women’s Tales.
