Chui Mui Tan is a Malaysian director and film-producer. Born in Sungai Ular, a small village in Kuantan, Malaysia. She made her debut feature in 2006, with “Love Conquers All », which won numerous prizes at film festivals across the world.

In this film, Tan delves into the intricate nuances of « self-defense » in the context of a woman’s experience in today’s world, rife with enduring struggles. Gita the protagonist,  is haunted by her past, she being mentored by a sisterhood who is teaching her how to fight. Through friendship and support, Gita harnesses both her physical and spiritual strength, culminating in a powerful confrontation where her rage knows no bounds, rendering her invincible against any adversary.

« I’m the Beauty of Your Beauty, I’m the Fear of Your Fear » marks the 27th commission from Miu Miu Women’s Tales, showcasing the brand’s commitment to promoting female voices in cinema and storytelling.

To coincide with the premiere, Miu Miu is hosting a series of discussions and screenings at Yongfu C52 in Shanghai. The lineup includes director Chui Mui Tan, along with esteemed guests such as Sdanny Lee, Jo Kukathas, Mao Jian, Dan Bao, Cao Dan, and Fei Yining. These sessions will explore thought-provoking topics like « Our Bodies: A Tapestry of Luminous Mysteries » and « Goddesses, Women, and Femininity – Reshaping Female Narrative, » offering a platform for multidisciplinary discourse and reflection.
