The pursuit of innovation and German design excellence was once again celebrated at the 2024 RIMOWA Design Prize, which marked its second edition in December 2023. This prestigious event, dedicated to fostering emerging talent in the field of design, showcased the remarkable creativity and ingenuity of young designers from leading universities across Germany.

Hosted at James Simon Gallery in Berlin, the ceremony served as a platform to honor the finalists and their groundbreaking projects. Under the guidance of an esteemed jury, composed of industry leaders and designers, the students had the opportunity to refine their concepts and make them concrete.

Among the contestants, Janne Kreimer of Anhalt University emerged as the recipient of the top prize. Mentored by Andreas Murkudis, Kreimer’s project, the RO waistcoat, stood out for its innovative approach to addressing anxiety. By integrating exposure therapy with modern technology, the RO waistcoat offers a holistic solution for anxiety management. Utilizing acupressure meridians and Deep Pressure Stimulation, it activates the parasympathetic nervous system to induce a calming effect, providing users with a sense of tranquility in stressful situations.

In addition to the top honor, special recognition was bestowed upon Daniela Lindenberga from SRH Berlin University of Applied Sciences for her project, the IXO. Mentored by Sebastian Herkner, Lindenberga’s design responds to the alarming increase in hate-motivated crimes in Germany. The IXO is a wearable safety device equipped with essential tools such as a flashlight, camera, microphone, speaker, and GPS tracker, empowering users with enhanced safety measures while traveling.

The RIMOWA Design Prize celebrates and serves as a testament to the enduring legacy of German design. Through mentorship, guidance, and recognition, it nurtures the next generation of creative visionaries, ensuring that their voices and contributions continue to shape the future of design.
