PRADA SPRING/SUMMER 2025 MENSWEAR SHOW

By Chloe Edstein

The menswear collection for Spring/Summer 2025 by Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons delves into contemporary concepts of truth and pretence, blurring the lines between what is real and what is not. They prompt us to challenge our perception of reality, urging us to take a closer look and re-evaluate.

At the core of the collection lies a theme of closeness, symbolizing the human desire for intimacy and connection. This proximity also influences our perception; from a distance, certain pieces may appear to be something else, with seemingly simple and naive details. However, upon closer inspection, these details transform our perceptions.

Garments featuring wired details bring collars and hems to life with an unreal energy, as if they are animate themselves. Deliberately creased, patinated, and aged, the clothing bears the marks of time, with imperfections serving as a reminder of life and authenticity. Unusually long or cropped exaggerated proportions are blended on instinct – like a superhero sweater reimagined for a new setting. Bernard Buffet’s paintings are printed onto clothing like concert tees. Pieces from various origins are paired together with care.

The atmosphere reflects a sense of liberty, youthful hope, and vigour. Within the Deposito of the Fondazione Prada, a fairytale ravescape is created, bringing people together. Nearby is a hut, the most basic of structures, serving as a symbol of the fundamental and essential, manifested in clothing that is straightforward and unadorned. In this utopian idea, the realm of imagination can introduce a fresh form of reality.
