JUNYA WATANABE MAN SPRING-SUMMER ’25 COLLECTION

By Chloe Edstein

Junya Watanabe showcased his Spring-Summer ’25 collection, demonstrating his enduring interest in punk culture and its non-conformist fashion, disrupting conventional norms. Within this collection, Watanabe revamps polished, refined blazer designs with patched denim and tartan patterns.

The initial 25 outfits center on contemporary suiting, gradually moving from traditional suit elements to dual denim interpretations. Black and gray patchwork, crafted from diverse materials, reconstruct the classic notch lapel tuxedo, emphasizing contrasting stitching and Junya Watanabe’s distinctive red plaid. Traditional tuxedo jackets are matched with denim trousers before evolving into double-breasted denim tuxedo jackets featuring plaid patchwork to coordinate.

Tuxedo jackets are paired with relaxed, washed denim or patchwork denim trousers tapering at the ankle. Relaxing the collection further he reveals a series of band tees, paying homage to punk rock heroes like Black Sabbath and ACDC. As the collection progresses he replaces the band tees with a series of collared white button-downs, each with their own character, achieved through colour blocking, texture, and stripes.

The colour palette is sharp and bold, transitioning from punctuating blacks, greys, and blues to plush and angular whites. The collection fused together with peeks of yellows, reds, and greens. Each look tied together in a bow around the neck.
