BACKSTAGE AT DIOR HAUTE COUTURE FW24-25

By Aicha NDIAYE

Dior unveiled its Haute Couture Fall/Winter 24/25 collection on Monday at the Rodin Museum in Paris. The Luxury house dedicated its latest runway show to Olympic athletes, showcasing over 30 giant images of women engaged in various sports like baseball, skateboarding, basketball, and athletics, featuring the reproductions of works by late American artist Faith Ringgold.

Maria Grazia Chiuri aimed to pay tribute to all athletes who have transcended prejudices and obstacles throughout history to achieve equality in sports competitions. By exploring the relationship between performance and clothing, the Dior Women artistic director questions the essence of fashion itself, its construction, and its unique connection to the moving body.

The collection features draped designs, including silk dresses embellished with embroidery, transparent metallic tank tops trimmed with satin, and outfits where a skirt reveals pants with every step.

Highlighted in the collection are black and white tulle bodysuits adorned with chains and intricate borders, reflecting the image of a warrior woman. Long ivory jersey dresses embellished with golden motifs and intricate braids complement the collection.

The silhouettes reflect the power both experimental and reflective of couture, showcasing its skill in reimagining a woman’s elegance, delicacy, and strength simultaneously.

Dior’s latest Haute Couture collection eloquently blends athleticism and elegance, paying homage to the resilience and strength of female athletes past and present. Maria Grazia Chiuri’s designs beautifully bridge the worlds of couture and sports, showcasing the image of a woman who is both delicate and powerful.
