A MEETING WITH KACEY MOTTET-KLEIN

By Crash

Nadia Tereszkiewicz, Garance Marillier, Kacey Mottet-Klein and Roman Kolinka form the vanguard of a portfolio dedicated to the new faces of French film, whose charismatic performances have electrified the big screen in recent years. Kacey Mottet-Klein started acting at a young age, almost reluctantly, after he was discovered on the street. Following his first role in Ursula Meier’s film Home, he embodied a young Serge Gainsbourg in the biopic directed by Joann Sfar in 2010. This year he starred in André Téchiné’s Farewell to the Night, alongside Catherine Deneuve and Oulaya Amamra.

Can you introduce yourself?

My name is Kacey and I’m twenty years old. I was born in Switzerland to an American father and French mother.

What are you working on right now?

I’m doing promotion right now. I’m scheduled to shoot a film directed by Audrey Diwan in August.

What movie made you want to work in film?

None. I started working in film by chance. I was discovered in the street when I was eight. It was for Ursula Meier’s Home

What is your fondest memory on set?

A film with Virginie Efira and directed by Joachim Lafosse, Keep Going, which was shot entirely on horseback in Morocco. We shot in stunning locations, which was almost enough to make us forget the harsh working conditions.

What is your favorite way to spend a day off?

It depends. In Switzerland, I spend a lot of time with my horse, which I bought during the Joachim Lafosse film.

If you were an album which one would you be?

I have a very eclectic taste in music. But I think I would be a Pink Floyd album, Dark Side of the Moon.

Who is your favorite artist?

I don’t really have a favorite artist. I’m drawn to people for their sensibility, rather than seeing them as artists. And in that sense, I don’t like hypocrisy or inauthenticity.

What is your dream destination for a holiday?

There are too many places to visit in the world to choose just one.

What is something people would be surprised to know you do?

I speak a bit of Arabic.

If you could change something in the world, what would it be?

Educating people about smarter films, as well as credible media and news.
