A-POC ABLE ISSEY MIYAKE X TATSUO MIYAJIMA AT MILAN DESIGN WEEK

By Crash redaction

During the Milan Design Week from June 7 to 21, 2022, Issey Miyake presents Thinking Design, Making Design: Work by A-POC Able Issey Miyake and Tatsuo Miyajima, a special exhibition on their collaborative project, showcasing the thoughtfulness and creativity behind Issey Miyake’s design work, a House that always challenges itself to create original products. This exhibition showcases artist Tatsuo Miyajima’s work on digital figures in seven segments and introduces for the first time overseas A-POC Able Issey Miyakz’s Type-II Tatsuo Miyajima project for which the brand collaborated with Miyajima to create garments inspired by his work, encouraging the experience of wearing art in everyday life.

World-renowned contemporary artist, Mr. Tatsuo Miyajima creates artworks that represent time through the representation of numbers from 0 to 9, based on three concepts: « it is constantly changing », « it is connected to everything » and « it continues forever ». This special exhibition features an installation of the TYPE-II-002 series with the textile used to design the jackets and a video of an interview with Miyajima that reveals the thought and realization behind this collaboration – a unique encounter – between the artist’s performative work and A-POC Able Issey Miyake that explores new possibilities in clothing design.
The unisex jacket uses TriporousTM*, a new material made from rice husks, a biomass surplus. Each day, a visitor rolls a 10-sided die and then hangs the segments on the wall according to the number obtained. The artwork of the day is thus determined by the result of the die roll, evoking the passing of time.
