ALAN VEGA’S « CESSPOOL SAINTS » EXHIBITION AT GALERIE LAURENT GODIN

By Crash redaction

Galerie Laurent Godin presents « Cesspool Saints, » a new exhibition showcasing the visual art of Alan Vega from May 16th to July 27th, 2024. Alan Vega, an influential American rock musician and visual artist, was best known as the vocalist of the electronic protopunk duo Suicide, considered pioneers of the punk rock movement.

This project is the result of a collaboration with musician, producer, and poet Jared Artaud (The Vacant Lots), who co-curated the exhibition, and Liz Lamere, who shared Vega’s life and creative work for over three decades. Lamere’s ongoing trust and involvement have been crucial in bringing this exhibition to life.

« Cesspool Saints » coincides with the release of the new album, « Insurrection, »  a previously unreleased album of the Brooklyn native singer, co-produced and mixed by Jared Artaud and Liz Lamere. Both are deeply dedicated to preserving, producing, and sharing rare or unreleased recordings and sound materials by Alan Vega and Suicide with the public.

The exhibition will feature Vega’s iconic « Light Sculptures, » previously unseen « Boxer Paintings, » and unique collages titled « Ransom Notes. » Additionally, the show will include « Lotto Tickets, » portraits from the artist’s sketchbooks and notes, as well as other paintings and works on paper that have never been exhibited before. These pieces illustrate the depth and unmatched vision of this revolutionary artist, both in music and visual arts.

« Cesspool Saints » offers a rare glimpse into Alan Vega’s multifaceted creativity, highlighting his significant contributions to contemporary art and music. This exhibition is a profound tribute to Vega’s legacy, showcasing his innovative spirit and the enduring impact of his work.
