It’s official: Alexander Wang leaves Balenciaga

This morning, and after many rumors, the fashion group Kering has officially confirmed that Alexander Wang will leave Balenciaga next season. The decision comes from a mutual consent between the creative director and the  House, after only three years of collaboration. During the past few years, the designer managed to give a new breath to the House, with incredible talent and modernity. The young man declared: « It’s been an incredible experience to work with a Couture house in Paris. I am honored to have had the opportunity to work for this historical Maison. I would like to thank the brilliant team at Balenciaga for their collaboration and for what we have accomplished together ». Indeed, the designer will present his last womenswear collection for Balenciaga during fashion week in Paris, next October. But if Alexander Wang leaves Balenciaga, it’s also in order to focus on his eponymous label based in New York, more and more successful. After playing a huge part in the great increase of sales, the creative director decided it was time to take his own brand to its « next level of growth ». The House has not named a successor yet, but we can figure it won’t be a famous figure. Lots of names have been dropped, but the suspense is at its height ! We can’t wait until the announcement of a new creative leadership for Balenciaga.
