ATELIER VERSACE SPRING-SUMMER 2016: A SPORTY SIDE OF HAUTE COUTURE

Donatella Versace has always a clear point of view, and her collection repeatedly have the quality to go straight to the point: Kicking off Haute Couture Week in Paris, the Atelier Versace Spring-Summer 2016 collection took on the challenging gamble to mix couture and sport. And it was a success! Anyone who knows Versace (and who doesn’t?) knows the Versace girl is a strong, dynamic woman, and Donatella is all about subliming her silhouette. Here, sportswear injects handcrafted garments with a pop of color and modern detailing, while some pieces (like a white bomber jacket) complement highly seductive slit skirts or minidresses. Donatella Versace creates that mix between an acclaimed femininity and a toughness brought by the sharp tailored jackets cut in the right place to show just the right amount of skin. The several white looks at the beginning of the shows set the tone for a pure aesthetic; they were followed by electric blue looks, bright yellow and vivid red dresses. One could say this is a signature Versace collection: truly feminist, non-apologetic. Towards the end of the show, the dresses started to look even more intricate, showing an impressing work: cords made of Swarovski crystals fill tie up the pieces of cut-out dresses together and recall the interlacing of a sneaker shoelace, but a sparkly one – which is even more appealing. As Donatella Versace said it: « I think women can be strong and capable of realizing their dreams whilst being beautiful and elegant. This is a collection dedicated to all women who are leading their own way. » The right message to start this Haute Couture Week off.
