BACK TO BARBES: A COUTURE STORY

By Jérôme Sessini

We’ve been wanting to work with a Magnum photographer for a while and, after our cover with Mia Goth, it has happened again in our Spring 2019 issue. The French photo reporter Jérôme Sessini has put aside war zones for the streets of Paris, where he shot the young up-and-coming Steinberg. The legendary photographer has seen it all, from the bloody streets of Syria to the riots in Kiev, where he documents the ugly truth day after day. With his camera, he captures cold, hard facts with an unexpected poetic aspect that turns horror into art. Sessini started out by shooting people and landscapes that surrounded him but then arrived to Paris to pursue a career in photo journalism. His first mission takes him to Kosovo and marks the start of a never-ending adventure. Discover our shoot, styled by our editor-in-chief Armelle Leturcq, set in the heart of the Barbès district, in the North of Paris, where haute couture gowns meet a concrete reality.
