BACKSTAGE AT CHARLES DE VILMORIN COUTURE FALL-WINTER 24

By Chloe Edstein

On this moonless night, they wear their finest attire. Shoulders raised, everything within us is bubbling. Reds and roses crackle, and our bunches of black roses stand tall like our feathered nerves. Each glance is a piece of the puzzle. Unspoken words weave their web around secrets. Bound by love, rivalries, and hidden truths, appearances are not entirely deceiving in Charles de Vilmorin’s Fall-Winter ’24 Couture Collection.

Black or red, crafted from masculine fabrics or taffeta, the long evening dresses hug the body, laced up corset-style at the back and ending in a long train. Sleeves are partly sewn along the dress sides, restricting movement, while feather plumes adorn shoulders or heads. A red silk ensemble embroidered with purple sequins is edged with ostrich feathers. While dresses in sumptuous jacquard fabrics are paired with capes for a princess look. A voluminous parachute dress appears made from crumpled paper. Sequins are embroidered in arabesques, reflecting the designer’s typical motifs. With feathers, oversized headdresses, embroidery, and three-dimensional elements, the collection takes on volume.

Red and black feathers rise high from the back of a black dress. A top hat extends in loops and spirals around the head, with a monocle in front of one eye. Elsewhere, curved lines act as a screen before a naked silhouette, while a giant parasol-shaped hat hides the model’s head behind long fringes. The show concludes with a spectacle: a woman engulfed in flames and seemingly lost, dancing along the runway.

Charles de Vilmorin invites us to wander along a path he has created with this collection.
