JW ANDERSON MENSWEAR SS17: A BACKSTAGE STORY

For the spring-summer 2017 season, Jonathan Anderson shows the full extent of his creativity with an eclectic collection. The designer embraces elongated silhouettes with checked shirts coming down to the knees or lower. Layers of fabric create rich textures, which are accentuated by numerous multicolored patterns that contrast with more pure looks (like off-white shirts or a navy-blue jumpsuit). Lengths are sometimes accentuated to the extreme with calf-long color-blocked jumpers which sleeves fall down to the floor. This season, the J.W. Anderson man feels like an explorer who has kept his inner child alive with his pilot goggles, self-made crowns, and references to Ancient Egypt in some of the clothes’ motifs. From time to time, the collection explores a surrealist aesthetic, with a puzzle pattern or a face motif here and there that are reminiscent of the games we liked to play when we were little.
