JOSEPH SS17: A BACKSTAGE STORY
Presented in London this week, the Joseph spring-summer 2017 collection was a fashion crescendo. The first silhouettes were fluid iterations of the white shirt and embodied a play on proportions. It may be seen as an ambitious statement to redefine the natural shapes of the body with clothes, still with Joseph it is done with such an artistic appeal that the eye is immediately drawn to discover the many secrets of the intricate designs. In an innovative approach, salvaged military uniform fabrics, sportswear fabrics and other materials are used to create Longjourney, a limited edition collection of handmade accessories. The Joseph trench is deconstructed, reconstructed, sometimes worn upside down as it seems, which gives great impact to the collection. As the collection evolves, the shapes grow more and more impressive, and silhouettes emerge from interlocking completely different garments into one. As one striking example, a sweater dress is made of piles of upside down knits with their original sleeves hanging, and sets the tone for a simply intricate collection.
