KENZO FALL WINTER 2016: A BACKSTAGE STORY
No more Paris Event Center this season for Kenzo, the collection was presented yesterday in Paris’ Salle Wagram next to the Arc de Triomphe instead. Entering the venue felt magical. On big screens all over the room, stars were shining as if it were a sweet night and guests took place either on beautiful gilded chairs or on a blue platform. A piano interlude playing the American National Anthem shown on the screens preceded the show. At first, it was all soft and romantic until interferences on the screen and music created an hybrid, high-voltage mix. The press release left on the chairs mentioned Sailor Moon as one of the inspirations for the collection. There was certainly a sense of cartoon eccentricity in the bold colors of the collection, the cat-eye make-up, and the schoolgirl ponytails. Archive Kenzo floral prints, namely iris and dandelions, are given a new breath next to psychedelic checks. Overall, the collection is functional, feminine, and exudes confidence.
