BACKSTAGE AT LOUIS GABRIEL NOUCHI S/S 2020

By Crash

Louis Gabriel Nouchi has only just launched his namesake house in 2017 but he is already a strong designer to watch. He presented his Spring/Summer 2020 collection last night at the Espace Niemeyer, an amazing building from the 70s where Courrèges hosted its last show in February. The starting point of the collection was Italian literature and especially the autobiographical book The Skin by writer Curzio Malaparte. The book translates the feeling of loss and defeat a city and its soldiers have to face after the end of the Second World War. A time of reconstruction but also a moment of reflection on the past and what marks it has left forever on the skin. Elements of military-wear were added to 1940s tailoring and handmade drawings on white shirts symbolized the tattoos soldiers get during their missions. Like a town that has been swept by war, classic shirts were slashed with motifs of Italian marble or ceramics, giving the looks a feeling of sheer brutality.
