MCM X CHRISTOPHER RAEBURN: CELEBRATING 40 YEARS OF CREATION

This year marks the 40th anniversary of MCM, the Munich-born luxury leather goods label. To celebrate this turning point, the House teams up with acclaimed British designer Christopher Raeburn on a unisex capsule collection for the spring-summer 2017 season, presented on the second day of London Collections Men on June 11th. The collection pays hommage to MCM’s roots. Imagined by Christopher Raeburn, it explores, with clothes as well as accessories, a new definition of travel. The focus is put on sustainable fabrics and technical textiles, which provide the base for Raeburn’s reinterpretation of the MCM identity. The iconic MCM « Visetos » pattern is to be found throughout the collection; it is mixed with colorful camouflage motifs all over trenches, bomber jackets, and parkas. Not only is the collection highly wearable and, to quote the show notes, « made to move, » it is also designed for both men and women, so it appeals to each and everyone of us. This approach is very much in line with the current philosophy of gender-fluidity and the higher concern for sustainability, functionality, and improved design process. Accessories were most definitely standing out: big multi-pocket backpacks, classic leather totes, as well as bumbags strapped around the chest, the selection was large and eclectic. Not to forget the sneakers and sunglasses, which added an other layer of cool on the already cool vibe provided by the collection. The show in itself was also something to remember: the models evolved inside a 360-degree digital installation that projected abstract imagery, just like an internal journey which evolved as the collection was presented. With this collaboration with Christopher Raeburn, MCM is taking the path of a new future made for the young generation of nomads.
