THOM BROWNE MEN FALL-WINTER 2016: THE ARTISTIC STATEMENT

Paris, Thom Browne Men Fall-Winter 2016. Can you believe the menswear collections in Paris are already over? As time flies and we can’t be bothered by any other distraction than going from one show to another, the Thom Browne Fall-Winter 2016 collection manages puts a hold on time before starting another hectic week, namely the Haute Couture collections. Pale-faced models entered the huge show venue in the Paris Event Center and uncovered large gilded framed under white sheets as well as a grand chandelier hanging from the ceiling. Walking the stage as the show began, the models wore bowler hats in front of their face (covering it up completely) and signature Thom Browne grey tailored suits. The influence of Magritte was palpable, and « The Son of Man » immediately came to mind. The doppelgänger silhouettes walked around the stage and then faced each other on both sides of the frames, creating a troubling mirror effect. Especially when you realized Browne showed three versions of the same silhouette: the first two seemed damaged and spoiled while the third one was impeccable and perfectly put together. Facing each other in a live triptych, it was as if we witness a man look back on his past, on his life, and ask himself how to move forward from now on.
