VIVIENNE WESTWOOD MEN’S SS17: A BACKSTAGE STORY

For this Spring-Summer 2017 menswear collection, Vivienne Westwood and Andreas Kronthaler explore the idea of « uni-sexing » again, with men and women modelling during the show. In fact, it seems identities are reversed as pieces of loose tailoring are often found on women and masculine male models sport asymmetrical tube dresses. All in all, the gender-neutral wardrobe is the perfect witness of Westwood’s avant-gardist take on clothing. Dame Westwood is the undisputed queen of punk, and her approach is as sharp as ever. Always approaching her fashion shows as a platform for her political battles, she dedicated this collection to Julian Assange with a campaign for him to be released – a situation she largely explains in the show notes. « We are taking part in a global event to celebrate whistleblowers and freedom. » Once again, Vivienne Westwood shows us the way.
