Y/PROJECT MEN’S SS17: A BACKSTAGE STORY

This season, Y/Project creative director Glenn Martens chose to show his spring-summer men’s collection on board Maxime’s Peniche on the Seine River, not that far from the Eiffel Tower. Recreating a salon atmosphere, the venue set the tone of a collection that felt more infused with romanticism than previous ones. Playing on duality (and showing both men’s and women’s silhouettes), Martens took inspiration from the 90s sportswear aesthetic mixed with deconstructed tailored pieces in washed-out tones. Denim is always a great part of the collection, and trousers are cut in an obtuse angle in the front, while legs are reworked as flat panels with metallic studs. Unexpected materials like moiré on trackpants and tuxedos are a common thread, and silk flowers add to the understated romanticism on transparent tulle tops for both men and women. The end result is eclectic, subtle yet powerful.
