BACKSTAGE: ROKH AUTUMN/WINTER 2022

By Crash redaction

For his Fall/Winter 2022 collection, Rokh founder and designer Rok Hwang, was inspired by the ‘’incredible women he has been blessed to know.’’ These women, he says, ‘’who move through life with an overwhelming confidence’’ have been his core inspiration as a designer and have helped to shape the Rokh brand that exists today. Honoring their individuality, he crafted a personal narrative, designing each look around a different woman and letting her characteristics come to the fore. The women namely being – his mother, his sister, his high school friends, university teachers, work colleagues. He wanted to project their shared attitude in the looks.

For Hwang, there was one item that best exemplified their mindset: the simple but chic sneaker. Admiring the strength and confidence of the women who wore sneakers for every occasion, whether it be to the office or to a swanky fashion party, Hwang put the Rokh spin on them, making twisted running shoes, their pads and closures patched together like a bit of collage art, which ground every look in the collection.

As always, the working woman comes to the fore in signature sharp tailored jackets and skirts, this time covered in a number of belted straps that give a twist to masculine suiting. Unfamiliar elements were paired together with a flair of eccentricity, see the classic check fabric coat with a high knit collar, covered in hardware buckles and trimmed with electric red feathers. Floral looks were not a typical print, but full jacquard and as richly textured as a Victorian carpet bag.

There are a few waterproof Windbreakers in the mix, including a color block number worn over a houndstooth skirt suit with sneakers—another nod to the modern working woman. The jacket unzips at the waist to create a neat cropped effect. The graphics in this collection are little riffs on hometown embellishments: college emblems, varsity letters and patches, which look like prints but have all been individually embroidered. It’s those artisanal details blended with youthful energy that make it so typically Rokh: A couture corset gown, covered in individually hand-sewn crystals, worn with patchwork sneakers and a ball cap. It’s a confident, carefree attitude, which exudes true beauty. Discover the exclusive backstage photos for Crash by Elise Toide of the collection…
