BERLUTI AND ARTIST MATHIEU FORGET PRESENT THE EXHIBITION « FRENCH ELEGANCE IN MOTION »

By Aicha NDIAYE

This summer, LVMH is offering a unique journey at the intersection of art, sport, and Olympic values through the engagement of its Houses: Berluti, Dior, Guerlain, Louis Vuitton, La Samaritaine, and the Louis Vuitton Foundation. These Iconic houses  have come together to present several exhibitions and artistic creations focused on sport, within their historic and iconic buildings in Paris, before and during the Paris 2024 Games.

At the heart of this cultural Olympiad for Paris 2024 is Maison Berluti, which designed the uniforms for the French team for the Opening Ceremonies of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games. For this project, Berluti partnered with artist Mathieu Forget, to capture unique self-portraits with olympics french athletes.

Mathieu Forget is a French dancer, photographer and artist renowned for his work on movement. For this collaboration, he creates  a series of photographs that capture the intersection of Berluti  and the Olympic and Paralympic Games; the artist and olympics athletes wore exclusive outfits from the Maison Berluti. In sixteen images, he orchestrates a play of mirrors between athletes, their training spaces, and cultural locations. Perpetually seeking a sense of displacement, much like his jumps that give the impression of defying gravity, Forget aims to capture the athlete in their element while creating a vanishing point. For instance, French fencing champion Enzo Lefort is photographed in his fencing attire, focused as if before a match. Instead of being in a fencing hall, he is seated on a bench at the Petit Palais Museum. All images in the series revolve around this concept, capturing the elegance of French motion.

Mathieu Forget also emphasizes the element of dance that runs through all Olympic and Paralympic disciplines: from fencing to athletics, swimming, racquet sports, and, notably, break dance, this collaboration is an ode to the sport and its aesthetic dimension.

Berluti’s collaboration with Mathieu Forget perfectly illustrates the mutual enrichment of art, fashion, and sport, offering works that celebrate both body and spirit.

This series will be showcased at Berluti’s boutique at 9 rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré from June 1 to September 9, 2024, covering the entire duration of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
