BLUE VELVET: THE NEW COLLECTION BY VHERNIER
By Crash redaction
AFTER TWO YEARS OF REFLECTION AND RESEARCH, VHERNIER RETURNS WITH « BLUE VELVET ».
« Blue Velvet » collection is the result of more than two hundred hours of craftsmanship over three months, using titanium – a material known for its rigidity – in an innovative way to create wavy shapes. VHERNIER has once again demonstrated its ability to reconcile bold design and handmade expertise.
The collection’s name comes from the peculiar reflections of the necklace, whose undulating and colored forms appear to take on the texture of velvet. It drew inspiration from Tridacna, a shell found in the rocky bottoms of the Pacific that manifests a flexible and floating movement upon contact with water. The house could only mimic this marine shape by using the lightness of titanium.
Crafted with extreme sophistication, the Blue Velvet necklace – set with several diamonds – was made possible by the house’s perfect knowledge of materials, as well as the mounting and coloring techniques needed to combine titanium with the intertwined diamond. A handmade oxidation process also helped to create a sapphire blue tone that recalls the shade of the Pacific seabed.
