BOTTEGA VENETA UNVEILS “ON THE ROCKS” INSTALLATION AT MILAN DESIGN WEEK

By Aicha NDIAYE

Bottega Veneta has joined forces with Cassina and Fondation Le Corbusier to present an extraordinary installation titled “On the Rocks” during Milan Design Week. This collaborative endeavor brings forth a grand-scale showcase housed at Palazzo San Fedele in Milan, marking a significant convergence of design and craftsmanship.

Under the creative direction of Matthieu Blazy, this installation orchestrates a narrative that revolves around the LC14 Tabouret Cabanon, an emblematic creation of Le Corbusier that epitomizes the exquisite artistry of the Cassina woodworking studio.

“On the Rocks” unveils custom editions of the LC14 Tabouret, initially commissioned by Matthieu Blazy for the Bottega Veneta Winter 24 show set, alongside a new limited-edition tribute crafted in signature Bottega Veneta leatherwork. The wooden iterations showcase a unique charred-wood technique, influenced by traditional Japanese craftsmanship, enhancing both durability and the intrinsic beauty of the wood grain.

The LC14 Tabouret is a testament to minimalistic brilliance. Inspired by a humble wooden whiskey box discovered by Le Corbusier among the rocks beneath Le Cabanon, this iconic piece boasts simplicity, sophistication, and adaptability. Its design showcases masterful dovetail joints, accentuating the seamless connection of solid wood components, while oblong openings facilitate effortless mobility.

Complementing the wooden renditions are leather editions, available in a palette of four captivating colors: red, yellow, blue, and raintree green. Each piece undergoes Bottega Veneta’s Intreccio foulard technique, meticulously woven by hand at the House’s artisanal atelier in Montebello. Employing a distinctive brushwork technique, the leather is adorned with colored paint, layered with black paint, and selectively removed to bestow a textured finish, rendering each piece truly unique. With only 60 leather editions and 100 wooden editions available for acquisition, exclusivity is assured.

Captured through the lens of Pierre Debusschere, the installation campaign features top model Anok Yai, posing with the LC14 Tabouret.

“On the Rocks” invites the public to immerse themselves in its splendor from April 16th to 20th, 2024. The exhibition offers a sneak peek into Palazzo San Fedele, slated to become Bottega Veneta’s new headquarters from September 2024. Situated in the heart of Milan, this historic edifice is poised to serve as a hub for cultural endeavors and the brand’s administrative activities alike, heralding a new chapter in Bottega Veneta’s storied legacy.
