BOUCHERON RELEASES ‘OR BLEU’

By Chloe Edstein

Boucheron unveiled its new collection titled “Or Bleu”. Claire Choisne dedicates her latest carte blanche to water, a vital and precious resource. More than just a high jewellery collection, Or Bleu is an ode to the memory of water.

She drew inspiration from the waters of Iceland—strong, powerful, and raw. In the rush of a waterfall, she envisioned a diamond necklace. Measuring 148 centimetres, this white gold and diamond piece, named “Cascade,” is the longest ever made in Boucheron’s ateliers. It’s a wellspring of surprises, transforming into a shorter necklace when two detachable sections are turned into earrings. Due to its oversized dimensions, the creation demanded utmost precision and patience. With 1,816 diamonds of varying sizes along its length, “Cascade” is meticulously set in a single articulated row, giving it a beautiful suppleness and a strikingly realistic fall.

In the surge of waves, she saw shoulder jewellery. A falling drop disrupting the fragile balance of the water’s surface inspired the “Ondes” set. To capture this organic ripple motion, the Boucheron studio simulated it using 3D software, which then dictated the volumes of a necklace and two rings. Claire Choisne chose rock crystal, sculpted and polished to perfection. The pieces are remarkable for their thinness and delicate rippling circles. The metal is reduced to a minimum in this necklace, designed as a second skin. 4,542 round diamonds are invisibly set underneath the rock crystal. At the epicentre of each concentric ripple sits a diamond, flush with the surface, enclosed in a bezel setting.

In the heart of a glacier, she envisioned a rock crystal bracelet. Iceland’s inky-black waters, far from being crystal clear, expose the harsh side of nature. Claire Choisne captured their intense colour in two pieces: the “Eau d’encre” cuff bracelet and ring. Boucheron selected obsidian, a volcanic stone of a deep jet-black hue. The bracelet is made from two identical blocks of this glassy rock, sculpted in a pattern of 3D-simulated waves to recreate the rough motion of water. The ring, set with a 2.01-carat D-VVS pear-shaped diamond, was designed based on the obsidian’s natural form. A snow setting was applied to both pieces, contrasting with the deep black rock and gently resembling the white foam of surf rolling over black sand beaches.

Once again, the House pushes creative boundaries with these naturalistic impressions of the colour, texture, flow, reflections, and transparency of water. These high jewellery pieces are like snapshots of nature, frozen in its rawest state. In this collection, Boucheron captures the beauty of water in 26 high jewellery creations.
