CHANEL UNVEILS ITS SPRING-SUMMER HAUTE COUTURE 24 COLLECTION

By Aicha NDIAYE

Chanel presented this Tuesday, its Haute Couture Spring Summer 2024 Collection at the Grand Palais Éphémère in Paris.

This collection celebrates Chanel’s iconic button as a symbol of liberation. Instantly recognizable as a Chanel code, the button becomes a jewel that adds boldness and sparkle to the unique look of the French House.

The Artistic Director Virginie Viard , embraces the spirit of emancipation embodied in the button and seamlessly integrates it into the world of ballet and dance. The collection becomes a symphony where fashion, music, theater, and painting unite as physical poetry.

Viard draws inspiration from the great names of dance, infusing the collection with the extraordinary style and triumphant body affirmations reminiscent of iconic dancers. « I often think about dance; it’s an important theme at Chanel, » – she remarks. Chanel maintains close ties with dance institutions, choreographers, and dancers, creating costumes for some ballet productions.

The collection features transparent tulle skirts, jumpsuits, and  tailors embellished with pearls and flowers. The pink and white dominant palette pays tribute to the Russian Ballets of Léon Bakst and Sergei Diaghilev, reminding the historical link between Chanel and dance.

In collaboration with talented and renowned artists, Virginie Viard creates a set that echoes the symbols of Haute Couture, just like in the short film « The Button, » a teaser of the collection, written and directed by Dave Free, and scored by the American rapper, Kendrick Lamar,

Chanel’s Spring-Summer 2024 Haute Couture collection stands as a testament to the enduring allure of the Maison’s codes and the timeless elegance of movement.
