COMME DES GARCONS HOMME PLUS SPRING-SUMMER 2017 PARIS

ON THE RUNWAY AT COMME DES GARCONS HOMME PLUS SS17
« The Kind is naked. » This is the statement you could read on an all-transparent PVC cape on the Comme des Garçons Homme Plus runway yesterday in Paris, as the legendary Rei Kawakubo unveiled her spring-summer 2017 collection. There was a sense of fantasy in the silhouettes presented, directly inspired by « The Emperor’s New Clothes, » the tale by Hans Christian Andersen. The collection showed a lot of transparency as if Kawakubo wanted to reject the way fashion is made today, like a blank canvas to repaint from. You could say there was also a certain sense of humour – or critic – with the phrases put on the clothes, as well as suits printed with montages of faces, and even the cage-like tops made of stiff wires. Almost like a wake-up call to rethink our perspective and appreciate our body.
