COMME DES GARÇONS PRESENTS A NEW COLLABORATION WITH CONVERSE

By Crash

In January 2006 at the A/W Comme des Garçons Homme Plus show, founder Rei Kawakubo sent a model clad in a crisp white shirt, black suit and the Chuck Taylor All Star down runway. The styling choice would serve as a preamble to one of the decade-defining footwear collaborations.

In 2009, Comme des Garçons and Converse—each with storied histories—commenced a partnership that has both helped inform the modern approach to the Fashion x Footwear collaboration and also produced more than twenty iterations that have been celebrated and sought after across culture.

Now, as Converse continues to energize it classics, it was natural to explore a new expression of the Jack Purcell, a sneaker identified by its instantly recognizable “smile” on the toe via the brand-defining collaboration Converse x Comme des Garçons Play. It is the first time the two brands have partnered on the Jack Purcell since 2011.

Offering a cheeky-yet-classic style statement informed by Jack Purcell’s nickname “The Smiler” and its long history enjoying the good life across court activities, boating and golfing before ultimately being adopted across subcultures. True to its original details but remastered for stability, comfort and fit with a cushioned sock liner and insole and a high traction herringbone rubber sole, the Jack Purcell now touts an oversized heart logos on a new shade of colored canvas – Silver Filigree.

The Converse x Comme des Garçons Play Jack Purcell will release globally tomorrow at Comme des Garçons and Dover Street Market stores globally, as well as online at doverstreetmarket.com and Converse.com.
