CRASH 10 BEST FASHION FILMS SELECTION / BLEU DE CHANEL BY JAMES GRAY WITH GASPARD ULLIEL

By Crash redaction

The new « Bleu de Chanel » film is directed by James Gray and, this time again, stars French actor Gaspard Ulliel.

Following the first « Bleu » short film with Gaspard Ulliel by Martin Scorcese, this one is a continuation of the same story, a story about a famous actor trapped in his astounding celebrity, reaching for escape. The blue tones, referencing the fragrance’s bottle deep blue color, are used in both of the films. The « Bleu » man imagined by Scorcese was self-confident yet fragile, energic but full of doubts, willing to send let go off everything he has. James Gray’s interpretation of the Chanel man is freer, more mature. He’s a man who’s not afraid to follow his heart.

The story is about a man who can’t stop thinking about the love of his life. In every waking moment, he suffers from visions of his beloved, almost unreal mysterious dark-haired woman. On the sound of Jimi Hendrix’s « All along the Watchtower », the man runs off to reach his dream. Though the atmosphere is dark and unsure, at the end, we see him standing on a cliff at night, looking confident as ever. He may be alone, but the best is yet to come. « You are forever becoming who you are ».
