DAWN IN LUXOR, A NEW FILM BY KENZO

By Crash redaction

Kenzo’s Creative Directors Carol Lim and Humberto Leon have chosen Kahlil Joseph to translate the spirit of the Spring-Summer 2014 collection into a short film published online. Kenzo’s latest collection is inspired by the creative duo’s native California, which they chose to showcase in the film as well as the fundamental element of the sea – a source of inspiration that they used for their “No Fish No Nothing” initiative against marine pollution, overfishing, and the destruction of marine life.

In this intriguing film, Kahlil Joseph brings together three different worlds and situations: a man ordering fish in a Jamaican restaurant, a beautiful woman peering at the ocean, a young boy paying homage to a beached dolphin. The sea is omnipresent in this vision of the world’s multiple realities – a mix between sophistication and spirituality, calmness and toughness, stillness and sensuality. Between realism and fantasy, the juxtaposition of the scenes creates an out-of-time experience, enhanced by the beauty of Grace Mahary and music by Shabazz Palaces. All of the images succeed in conveying these mixed feelings and in providing a magical, indescribable feeling of humbleness to whoever is watching; a pure emotion that undeniably suits Carol Lim and Humberto Leon’s work.
